Your practical driving test will start with an eyesight check and some "show me",
"Tell me" questions. Providing that you pass the eyesight check you will then
be taken out on the road to complete the test, this is to check your general driving ability, you will also be asked to carry
out some of the maneuvers that you have been taught. Your driving test will take about 40 mins. Your
test examiner will be checking your overall driving to make sure it is of a safe standard. You
can make upto 15 minor faults on your test and still pass, 16 or more and you will fail, if you commit ONE
SERIOUS OR DANGEROUS FAULT you will fail.
EYESIGHT REQUIREMENTS
20.5 Metres for old style number plates. 20 Metres
for New Style number plates.
Please also be aware if you wear glasses for reading the number plate, then you must wear them throughout the test.

Here is an example of "Tell" & "Show" Questions. "TELL ME" QUESTIONS
Q1. Open
the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient
oil. A: Identify dipstick/oil level indicator, describe check of oil level against the minimum/maximum
markers. Q2.
Tell me how you would check that the brake lights are working on this car. A: Operate brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows, garage doors etc, or ask someone to help.
"SHOW ME" QUESTIONS Q1. Show me how you would check that the direction indicators are working.
A: Applying the indicators or hazard warning switch and walking around the vehicle to check functioning of
all indicators. Q2. Show me how you would check that the headlights and tail lights
are working. A: Operate switch (turn on ignition if necessary), walk round vehicle.
